Overview
The Grammar You Need series (three levels) covers essential grammar for the purpose of writing in English in an academic setting. Each fold-out card provides clear, full-color visuals showing how the grammar structures work and how to apply them. Students can download free workbooks from ProLinguaLearning.com and can also take advantage of the powerful web application for this series at TheGrammarYouNeed.com. Level 3 of the series, Writing with Clarity and Accuracy, develops students understanding and control of adjective, noun, and adverb clauses; reduced clauses; and the grammar elements necessary to create clear flow in academic writing, to express facts, viewpoints, predictions, and hypotheses, and to cite sources and use the ideas of other writers.Author Biography
Mark Alves, PhD, lead author for The Grammar You Need Level 3, is a professor at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland where he has primarily taught college ESL (and Intro to Linguistics and Chinese) since 2001. He has also taught master’s-level TESOL courses and has written about TESOL writing at the college level. Outside the U.S., he has taught TEFL and linguistics in Vietnam, Taiwan, and Macau. He has also co-authored the Word Combination Card, published by Pro Lingua Learning. Henry Caballero teaches linguistics and English for Academic Purposes at Montgomery College, Maryland's oldest and largest community college. He has authored numerous textbooks and scholarly articles. Michael Berman is an award-winning teacher and ESL materials writer who has taught English for Academic Purposes at Montgomery College, Maryland's oldest and largest community college, for over 25 years. He has authored dozens of textbooks and scholarly articles. Eileen Cotter has a Master’s of Education from Boston University. She has taught all levels from early childhood to college credit classes. In addition to teaching ESL classes, she has taught numerous workshops and written an ESL textbook on second language writing. Her work on The Grammar You Need materials includes co-authoring cards, the extensive online workbooks and web applications. She also edited the second edition of the well-known teacher training textbook, The ELT Grammar Book.
